Dr. Seuss Pillow Cases

About a month ago I started posting about the Dr. Seuss themed room I helped create for my nephews.  My mother in law and I painted the walls with Dr. Seuss murals (found here).  I then made each of them a Dr. Seuss quilt: one Lorax themed the other Cat in the Hat themed (found here and here). What I didn't post was that I also made pillow cases for each of them.  One corresponding to each quilt and I thought I would share them now since I finally got pictures of them (I was in a rush to get them mailed when I made them and forgot to photograph them).

For the fabric on each pillow I used Celebrate Seuss by Robert Kaufman and Kona Cotton Solids.  The main body of the pillows were done in the character dot Celebrate Seuss prints and the cuff was done in Celebrate Seuss Celebration Rainbow stripe.  The Small accent bands were done in the Kona solids that matched the back of the corresponding quilt (ie. green for Lorax quilt, Blue for Cat in the Hat).

I also have pictures of the entire Dr. Seuss themed room and will be sharing those shortly.

Thanks for reading!

  1. These are nice and bright. Sure to be favourites with your nephews.

Thanks for you comment about my quilting dilemma. I like the idea of hand quilting the entire quilt but I think an open stipple finish (my initial first choice) will work better and provide that anchoring/strength to support the whole quilt. I tried a sample of hand quilting yesterday but it didn't seem right. I'm also aware that the white triangles will be positioned on the corners of the bed top and will likely receive quite a bit of wear as well as bearing the weight of the quilt and need to be strong. Nice to have my own thoughts confirmed!

    :)
    Have a pleasant weekend,
    Karen
