Sewing for Hilltop Part 2

A few days ago I posted about a few shirts I embroidered for the Hilltop Coffee House and Family Center a non-profit organization started my my family in Montserrat.  Today I am here to post about the above aprons I made for them as well.

David, my father in law was looking to get some aprons he could embroider for the Hilltop.  Plain black aprons, nothing special or fancy, but the cheapest one we could find was like $10-15 with most being around $20 or so.  I was shocked, I knew he wanted a few aprons (but at $20 an apron, I knew I could do better).

I went to my local fabric store and bought 2 yards of fabric for about $17 and was able to get 4 aprons out of it. The first two aprons were very simple, all black with a pocket and the Hilltop embroidery.

When I went to do the second two aprons I knew I wanted to do something different so I went into my stash and pulled a gold, white, and green plaid.  This plaid worked wonderfully for the aprons, not only because it worked with Hilltop's colors (although I did change the thread color on the word embroidery to match the fabric) , it is also the island of Montserrat's fabric.  I believe most of the Caribbean islands have a special fabric (typically a plaid) that gets used during carnival and other special island events, and I just happened to have some I was saving.


I kept the pattern of these aprons the same opting to use the fabric as and accent for the pockets and ties.  I couldn't have been happier with the way these turned out and the hilltop loved them - which was the goal of the whole project in the first place.
