Cat in the Hat Quilt
The third installment of my Dr. Seuss related creations is finally here! The Cat in the Hat Quilt. As with the Lorax quilt no pattern was used. I had a plan in mind starting the the Cat in the hat panel in the center and then to make wonky blocks with clean white borders around them. The result was to make the inner pieces of the blocks crooked and then square them up.
Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of this quilt as well as the Lorax quilt before giving them to my nephews (it was a crazy time - they were given to them about a day or so before my wedding) so I had my brother-in-law send me some pictures of the quilts.
The back of the quilt is a royal blue Kona Cotton inlaid with some more Seuss fabric for added interest. For quilting I machined quilted diagonally across this quilt in a royal blue thread. Same quilting design as the lorax quilt but with thread that matched this quilt.
Binding was the same as the Lorax quilt and I just adore the look of it against the royal blue backing. I think it really pops!
Hope you guys enjoyed seeing the quilt as much as I enjoyed making it!
Love,
Elise Lea
Both the front and back turned out brilliantly.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteDo you have a pattern for the kooky blocks? Thanks, julie
ReplyDeleteHi Julie,
DeleteAs of right now I do not have a pattern for this quilt. I took 2 different cat in the hat panels and chopped it up (purposely crooked) and added borders of fabric that were also kooky. I would then square them up on the second border I would add.
Hope this helps
Thank you so much! I am going to make this for my grandson's 1st birthday!! Do you happen to remember which panes you got it is the best cat in the hat quilt I have seen
DeleteI guess it is three now that I look at it. One is the middle blue panel that is the big cat in the Cat. One is the book panels and another is the cat in the hat blocks.
DeleteFabric.com carries all three, I am sure you can find them elsewhere too but the following three links are for the panels (so you can see what the fabric looks like). I surrounded them with a combination of cat in the hat fabric (which i got as a fat quarter bundle online somewhere) and celebrate Seuss fabric which i got at my local quilt shop

The fat quarter bundle I got on fatquartershop.com and it includes 2 of the three panels.
DeleteThank you for your help!! I am going to order the fabric. One last question, lol. What are the measurements if the finished quilt (approx) ?
DeleteNo Problem. I made it a twin sized quilt, and used twin sized batting so i would say close to 68" by 86" or so. Not sure of the exact size sorry.
DeleteOk thanks,
DeleteHi I love your quilt have you made a pattern of this???? I would love to purchase one as I'm new to quilting and struggle with the 'no pattern' . Thanks Jacci
