FQ Drawstring Jewelry Bag WIP

I recently decided to make two jewelry bags for some girls who are like little sisters to my husband and me.  I wanted to make them something affordable but something I thought they would both use, and then it hit me jewlry bag would be a great solution. I scoured the internet for free jewelry patterns and settled on this 8 pocket jewelry pouch pattern from Sew 4 Home.  The pattern itself was simple and straightforward for the most part but I did make a few changes to suit my needs and preferences.

Top two choices for purple and green fabric.
Top two contenders for pink and blue fabric.

The first change I made was to use 4 fat quarters instead of the 2 half-yards that the pattern calls for.  I did this because I didn't want identical (or even almost identical) bags.  One girl loves purple and green while the other loves blue and pink and I didn't want to compromise on the color.  As it turns out, fat quarters work just fine as long as you are careful to cut out the circles with no waste.

Bag #1 Blue and pink floral exterior - a pink and white interior.
Bag #2 Purple and green floral exterior - Bright green dot interior
The second change I made was to make an extra button hole (for the drawstrings) on the opposite side of each bag.  I did this so I could create a drawstring that closes when you pull the strings on either side of the bag, instead of just one string in the front.  I thought that this would keep the bag closed better, and be easier to use than the method in the free pattern.

My first time making button holes on my machine and they worked great!
I am still working on these bags, but I am loving the way they are turning out so far.  More to show soon!  Linking up with Lee @ Freshly Pieced for WIP Wednesday.
