A Commissioned Medallion Quilt

Black and White Quilt

All work on the shark quilt for my husband and the low volume candy quilt have come to a halt for more urgent work - A custom Milky Way Medallion Quilt.

My requirements for this quilt are:
1) Similar look and feel to the commissioned Bow Tie quilt I made earlier this year.
2) Black, grey, brown and navy with low volume fabrics.
3) Modern but girly

Original fabric pull - it has since been edited (specifically that bottom brown) and added to.

The colors are not something I would have put together for myself if they had not been commissioned, but I love they way they look together.  Even with the addition of navy it is just so neutral looking while not being plain and boring.

To give the feel of the bow tie quilt I kept the fabrics very simple - either white on tone, or tone on tone.  I also used the same white (Kona Snow) for the plain borders as I did in the background of the bow tie quilt.  To help make it girly I made sure to use plenty of polka dots, and found a few girly floral fabrics. I also threw a few subtle metallic prints for good measure.

As for the pattern, it is called Milky Way Medallion and is a quilt pattern I designed and released earlier this year (you can find it in my shop here). I have been working hard to complete this quilt before we go on vacation next month!  More to share soon.

  1. Interested to see how this will turn out! I would think it would be difficult to make it look girly in that color scheme.

  2. I'm loving your low volume pile of fabrics. Also looking forward to seeing how this one looks as you continue.
